Step by step

A hearing test at home, near you in Pune

Home visits suit seniors who find travel tiring, anyone with limited mobility or recovering from an illness, and families caring for a parent at home. They also suit first-time hearing aid users who want to hear an aid in their own rooms, with their own TV and family voices.

How a home visit goes

  1. Booking. Call or WhatsApp us, or fill in the contact form. Tell us who the visit is for and where you live, and we arrange a convenient time.
  2. Setting up. We choose the quietest room in your home and set up portable, calibrated equipment. Family members are welcome to stay.
  3. A conversation first. We ask about your hearing, your health and the situations where listening is hardest.
  4. The audiometry test at home. You listen for soft tones through headphones and respond each time you hear one. Our audiometry test page explains each test in more detail.
  5. Your results, explained. We explain what the results mean in plain language, and what, if anything, to do next.
  6. A hearing aid test at home. If a hearing aid could help, you can try one at home with our free home trial before you decide. Fitting and fine-tuning can happen at home too.

Repairs that need a workbench go to our hearing aid repair centre in Viman Nagar, and speech testing and speech therapy for children and adults happen there too.

Looking for a free home hearing test?

The home trial of a hearing aid is free. On purchase of a hearing aid, your consultation, audiometry and video otoscopy are free as well. Otherwise a hearing test is chargeable, and we confirm the cost and any visit charge with you before the visit.

A plain guide

Can you do an ear test at home?

Partly. You can notice the signs yourself, but only a proper test shows how well each ear hears, and why.

What you can notice yourself

  • You often ask people to repeat themselves, or family say you mishear.
  • The TV or phone volume keeps creeping up.
  • Conversations are hard in noisy places, or when several people talk.
  • You miss the doorbell, the pressure cooker whistle or birdsong.
  • You notice ringing or buzzing in the ears.

Online hearing checks and phone apps can be a useful nudge, but results depend on your headphones, room and device, and they can’t look inside the ear or show the type of hearing loss. A worrying result, or a good result while you still struggle, deserves a proper test.

What a professional ear check-up at home involves

Audiologists typically begin by looking into the ear canals for wax or anything else that could affect the result. Each ear is then tested with calibrated equipment, and the results are plotted on an audiogram, the chart of the softest sounds you hear at each pitch. If anything needs a doctor’s attention, we will tell you.

Please don’t put cotton buds, oil or drops into your ears before they have been examined. If the eardrum is damaged, that can make things worse.

Don’t wait for a home visit if

  • Hearing drops suddenly in one or both ears.
  • You notice a new hearing loss in one ear.
  • There is ear pain, discharge or bleeding.
  • You feel dizzy, or the room spins, with a change in hearing.
  • Your hearing changed after a head injury.

See a doctor or an ENT specialist promptly. If hearing loss comes with a drooping face, weakness, slurred speech or confusion, go to a hospital emergency department now. Read more about sudden hearing loss.

Questions

Home service FAQs

Is a home hearing test as accurate as one at the clinic?
For most assessments, yes. We use calibrated portable equipment and choose a quiet room in your home. If a specialised test needs our clinic setup, we will let you know and arrange it.
How much does a hearing test cost?
It depends on which tests you need. A simple hearing check, a full diagnostic assessment and specialised tests are priced differently, and the right tests depend on your age and symptoms. We tell you the cost when you book, before any test is done. On purchase of a hearing aid, your consultation, audiometry and video otoscopy are free.
Is there an extra charge for home visits?
Charges depend on your location and the service needed. We will always confirm any visit charge with you in advance, with no surprises.
What is the average cost of a hearing test?
There isn’t a useful average, because a hearing test can mean anything from a short screening to a set of diagnostic tests such as pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry and tympanometry. The number of tests, the patient’s age and whether the test happens at home or at the clinic all change the price. Ask us for the cost of the tests you need.
How much does an OAE hearing test cost in India?
Prices vary across India, between hospitals and clinics, and depend on whether the OAE is a quick screening or part of a fuller diagnostic assessment. OAE is a painless check of the inner ear, widely used to screen newborns and young children. We tell you the cost when you book, and our newborn hearing screening page explains how the test works.
How do I book a home visit?
Call or WhatsApp us on +91 97664 52655, or fill in the contact form. We will arrange a convenient time.
