When to bring it in
Signs your hearing aid needs a service or repair
- No sound, or much weaker sound than usual.
- Whistling, even when the aid is in properly.
- Crackling, distortion, or sound that cuts in and out.
- Batteries running down unusually fast, or a rechargeable aid that no longer lasts the day.
- A cracked case, a hard or split tube, or a loose dome.
- Soreness or a poor fit from the ear mould or dome.
Before you visit, try a fresh battery or a full charge, and check the dome, wax filter and tube for wax or moisture, a common culprit in the monsoon. Still not right? Bring it in.
How it works

- Tell us what’s wrong. Call ahead or walk in, and bring the aid, its charger if it has one, and any warranty papers.
- We check it first. We clean the aid, look for wax, moisture and damage, and listen to how it sounds.
- You hear the options and the cost. We tell you what is wrong, what we recommend and what it costs before any repair work starts.
- The repair. Simple jobs are often done the same day. Manufacturer repairs take longer, with a clear timeline upfront.
- A final check. We check the fit and settings, and can re-adjust the aid to your latest hearing test.

Costs, explained
What decides hearing aid repair cost
A fair price depends on what is actually wrong, so we check the aid before we quote. What decides the cost:
- The fault. A blocked wax filter, dome or tube is a small job. A failed receiver, microphone or circuit needs new parts, and sometimes the manufacturer.
- Warranty. Repairs within warranty use genuine parts, with authorised servicing for all six brands: Signia, Phonak, ReSound, Widex, Oticon and Audio Service.
- The style and age of the aid. Custom in-ear shells, receivers and ear moulds each need different parts, and parts for older models can be harder to find.
Repair or replace?

Is it the hearing aid, or your hearing?
Sometimes the aid works perfectly and the change is in the ear: earwax can block the canal, or hearing can change over time. Because Prism is a full ear and hearing clinic, our audiologists can examine your ears, test your hearing and re-adjust the aid to match.
See a doctor promptly if
- Your hearing drops suddenly, even though the aid works, or a new hearing loss appears in one ear.
- There is ear pain, discharge or bleeding.
- You feel dizzy, or the room spins, with a change in hearing.
- Your hearing changed after a head injury.
