Vertigo & Balance (Vestibular) Testing in Pune

Dizziness and vertigo have a cause — and finding it is the first step to getting better. Prism is one of the few clinics in Pune offering a full vestibular test battery (VNG, VEMP, caloric and head-thrust) right here in Viman Nagar.

Dizzy, spinning or unsteady? Let’s find out why

Your sense of balance depends on the inner ear, the eyes and the brain working together. When something in that system isn’t right, it can show up as vertigo (a spinning sensation), light-headedness, unsteadiness or repeated falls.

Vestibular testing lets us measure each part of that system objectively, rather than guessing. Once we know which part is involved, the right treatment — repositioning manoeuvres, balance (vestibular) rehabilitation, medication or an onward referral — becomes much clearer.

Our balance tests

A complete vestibular assessment

Videonystagmography (VNG)

The main test battery for dizziness. Using lightweight video goggles, we record tiny eye movements to assess how your balance system and its link to your eyes are working — including oculomotor, positional and caloric sub-tests.

Caloric Test

Gentle warm and cool stimulation of each ear canal shows how each inner-ear balance organ responds, and whether one side is weaker than the other.

VEMP (Cervical & Ocular)

Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials measure muscle responses to sound to check the otolith organs and their nerve pathways — useful in many balance disorders.

Head Impulse / Head-Thrust Test

A quick check of the vestibulo-ocular reflex — how well each ear keeps your vision steady during rapid head movements.

Questions

Balance & vertigo FAQs

Why do I feel dizzy or keep losing my balance?
Dizziness can come from the inner ear (such as BPPV or vestibular neuritis), blood pressure, migraine, medication or neurological causes. Vestibular testing helps pinpoint which system is involved so it can be treated correctly.
Is VNG testing uncomfortable?
It’s mostly very comfortable — you simply wear video goggles and follow some lights and instructions. The caloric portion can cause a brief spinning sensation that settles within a minute or two; our team stays with you throughout.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No — you can come to us directly for an assessment. If treatment beyond our scope is needed, we coordinate with your ENT specialist or physician.
How should I prepare for the test?
Avoid eye make-up on the day, and when you book we’ll advise whether to pause certain medicines, caffeine or alcohol beforehand, as these can affect the results.
